Ben 2.0

Ben asked me to make a "new" version of himself as a plush for a co-worker and good friend who left the company a few weeks ago. I updated his look by adding the new piercings on his eyebrows and the bridge of his nose, as well as adding his fashion backward suspenders.

Great thrift store finds

Ben and I found these while looking through a few of our local thrift stores. Ben was looking for more 70s yarn art (crewel) for his office walls, and I was looking for fabric. These (excluding the large donkey) are actual old time original Dream Pets- they have the original tags and made in Japan labels on them. They're a little faded and worn, but I thought they were a cool find, and a fun addition to my collection. For individual pics, head on over to my flickr page.

BIG project in the works!

This is a pile of fabric for the project that will take up the next month so I won't be posting as regularly. I hope to do some posting in progress though. These fabrics are for for the first of two pieces that I am making for a show in early September, it should take me about 2 months of solid work to get them done. They will be plush wall hangings, like this one that I did for the Enchanted Tiki Room's 45th anniversary last summer:

Well, I'm off to get started on this project. Have a great weekend everyone!
STAY TUNED FOR A PLUSH GIVEAWAY STARTING MONDAY MARCH 23RD- I'll post the details sunday evening. :D

A late leprechaun...

Liam O'Brian is late as usual for St. Patrick's Day. When all other leprechauns are out in force celebrating the day and making mischief, Liam is fast asleep. This is partly because of his love for sleeping 18 hours a day, but mainly due to his faulty alarm clock, which he's sworn to replace for years now and still hasn't. His friends think it's funny to let him sleep through the day while they go and stand at the end of rainbows with their pots of gold, or drink some green beer at the local leprechaun bar after a long day of pranks. After waking this year on March 18th, and realizing he'd missed St. Patrick's Day AGAIN, Liam went straight out and bought himself a new alarm clock. He'll be fine as long as he doesn't press the "snooze" button.

St. Patrick's Day WIP

This is my last minute inspiration for St. Patrick's Day. Note to self- try to be inspired BEFORE the actual day of the holiday! I will have him all stuffed and ready tomorrow, so happy St. Patrick's Day everybody! Try not to over-indulge in all the green colored food and beverages...

"Curly" Malone

"Curly" Malone is another formidable member of the Rusty Pelican's crew. His once long and curly golden locks escaped his head scarf during a gale and got caught in some rigging. Maritime Marty was forced to chop them all off to save Curly from being trapped there to endure the full force of the storm. Since that day his hair has never grown back, and the crew continues to call him Curly. Old habits die hard, but Curly is used to it now.

Pirate collage

I'm working on a bunch of stuff right now, and for a distraction one night while Ben watched "First Blood" for the umpteenth time, I made these pirates with scraps of fabric. Not that I don't think "First Blood" is a decent movie, but any movie you've seen on TV four times in the same week gets old pretty fast.

Some Ninja action

This is a custom piece for a friend's boyfriend's birthday. The only requests were for Ninja throwing stars to be included, so I created an action pose to incorporate that. I had fun picking the black-on-black fabrics to add a little pattern to it, and I also figured that it's not really a Ninja without a sword, so I added one on the back. He was really happy with the end result, which was great- I'm always a little nervous about that when I send them off for some reason. For more work-in-progress pics, head on over to my flickr.
